JHC Selected for Choice Neighborhood Planning Grant

The Jackson Housing Commission (JHC), in partnership with the City of Jackson, was awarded a HUD Choice Neighborhoods (CN) Planning Grant for the Downtown Jackson neighborhood. Jackson was one of 8 communities nationwide that received the CN grant in 2021.

Through the Grant, JHC and the City will work with local residents and a variety of community stakeholders to create a forward-looking CN Plan with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. The grant will be used to bring the community and planning partners together to create a viable and actionable Transformation Plan for the Downtown Jackson community, which can be implemented utilizing a variety of local, state and national resources. Additionally, the grant will also be utilized to develop and construct a catalytic Early Action Project that will benefit all residents of the community.

The Plan will be centered on redevelopment of JHC’s Reed Manor property, which includes 292 units of low-income housing. The CN Plan will seek to replace 100% of those housing units within the neighborhood, or in other areas of opportunity as part of new mixed-income developments.
